Come take part in OGD’s 6th annual Dance, Design, & Film Intensive led by Artistic Directors Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves alongside key OGD company collaborators. Intended for serious pre-professional and professional dance artists with an interdisciplinary practice, this rigorous and immersive week-long intensive features an exciting lineup of classes, workshops, and labs. The intensive allows you to get inside of OGD’s creative processes while continuing the development and exploration of your own artistic voice. Beyond the main class schedule, this year’s intensive offers flexible evening programming in the form of OGD Nightcaps. Potential evening events include film screenings, editing labs, open studio space, improv jams, and technology workshops.

OGD Summer Intensive is hosted on the serene Sweet Briar College campus in Virginia. Room and board are included within the tuition for the intensive. Participants need only to show up ready to enjoy a week of dancing and creating work alongside Orange Grove Dance.

Next week we will be at part of the “Teaching the Arts in the Age of A.I.: A symposium” co-sponsored by Arts for All, Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM), and The Immersive Media Design program at The University of Maryland. This two-day symposium is centering conversations, workshops, and presentations around the integration of AI into curriculum building, artistic practices, and academic arts programs in higher education.

During the symposium, we were invited to share and reflect on our newest stage work, A&I. We will be talking about our process of building a relationship with AI on stage and how that has informed our creative practices. As part of our presentation we will share two excerpts from the work performed by @london_likethecity @robin.neveu.brown and @coy.co.art

Orange Grove Dance’s ‘A&I’ Brings Dance and Technology Face to Face:

A&I is a new dance and multimedia live production between five performers and a solitary AI interface (Luna) that uses smart home technology on a theatrical scale. The work questions how we see and care for the technologies we have created, which hold up the fragile ecosystems of modern society. Engaged in embodied conversations of their hopes and dreams, the performers and Luna are led into situations where they must see each other ‘face-to-face’–– together creating emotionally driven digital and sonic landscapes that reference the nostalgia of what it means to be a 21st century human. The work evokes a ghostly ephemeral tone at times, as Luna uses the intangible elements of memory, light, and sound to hold the performers during the piece. Like the voicemail of a loved one who has passed away, the work taps into the timelessness and the impermanence of shared human experience and gives focus to the hopeful and ominous future we are creating with AI.

Celebrated National Dance Day here @dickinsoncollege as we create a new site specific evening-length dance work through the many wondrous spaces of the Goodyear Building. Originally a shoe factory that employed hundreds of workers, now houses the wonderful Dickinson College Art and Art History Department.

For our new work, ASSEMBLY:REQUIRED we are working with 29 amazing dance students to bring back the history of the building but with a dynamic spin. Over two long weekends, we have been in residency with them, and our stellar composer, @glatthorn creating an hour-long experience that is not to be missed. It’s been a joy to work with such a dedicated group.

Using principles of weight, momentum, and energetic connection into space, Orange Grove Dance will guide an exploration of virtuosic and complex movement. Influences of classical technique are fused with contemporary and improvisational movement practices while exploring floorwork, inversions, weight shifting, and partnering.

This class will dynamically move between solo explorations and set energetic phrase work. Participants are encouraged to explore their own decision-making process in interpreting, executing, and ultimately transforming the movement material. The class level is advanced.

*Note: for this first Wednesday (9/11), class is at 6pm as it is part of the Dance Place’s District Choreographers Dance Festival. Then Wednesday classes continue at their regularly scheduled time of 7pm.

A UNIQUE SUMMER INTENSIVE WHERE DANCE, DESIGN, & FILM COLLIDE.

Check out OGD INTENSIVE 2024’s Recap Video! It was an incredible week of diving into our interdisciplinary artistic practices and allowing new collaborations/creations to unfold! We had a stellar group of artists join us.

This was our 5th annual Dance, Design, & Film Intensive led by Artistic Directors Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves alongside OGD company collaborators. Intended for serious pre-professional and professional dance artists with an interdisciplinary practice, this rigorous and immersive week-long intensive featured an exciting lineup of classes, workshops, and labs. The intensive allowed participants to get inside of OGD’s creative processes while continuing the development and exploration their own artistic voice. Beyond the main class schedule, this year’s intensive offered flexible evening programming in the form of OGD Nightcaps. Evening events included film screenings, editing labs, open studio space, improv jams, and technology workshops.
