We had an absolute blast celebrating @flyingvtheatre at their Nerd Cabaret and Gala last Saturday! Thankful for the many years of collaborations and their championing of experimental, interdisciplinary work.

Major bonus was hanging out with so many friends and brilliant artists. A giant Bravo to @ookellayyy for directing such a fabulous event and @glatthorn for tinkling beautifully the piano keys!

We shared a workshop on Dance Filmmaking, specifically focusing on nine essential moving shots and ways to use them in combination when considering the choreography of the camera. We had a stellar group of artists join us! They brought incredible curiosity, creativity, and generosity to the room. It was truly a joy to explore together.

At the threshold of body and image, LIMINAL celebrates dance film’s power to connect, transform, and reveal, giving movement a cinematic stage in the nation’s capital. Rooted in the concept of liminality, the threshold between one state and another, the festival embraces works that exist in the in-between: between body and image, tradition and innovation, presence and memory.

The LIMINAL DANCE FILM FESTIVAL seeks to champion voices from around the world while highlighting the incredible talent of the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region, creating a platform where local, national, and international artists converge to explore new dimensions of movement on screen. From experimental shorts to projection-based installations, the festival highlights dance film’s ability to expand how we see, feel, and experience movement in our daily lives.

This is more than a festival, it’s a convergence of movement and media, a gathering for artists and audiences alike to experience dance in a whole new way.

Looking back at our 9-day Choreographic Residency with @vcuartsdance last month and thankful that @toriduhaime was able to join us for a rehearsal to capture some in-process moments as we built our new work, LAUGH TRACK.

18 performers and 18 new minutes of choreography. The third-year dancers at VCU Dance brought remarkable focus and artistry to every rehearsal. Their commitment to exploration and rigor shaped LAUGH TRACK in ways that has stayed with us. We’re so inspired by this cast and what we created together.

Every residency teaches us something and refills our creative reservoir.

In Tampa, we saw students take risks. We saw audiences lean into difficult questions. We saw a community gather around movement, memory, and hope.

REMNANTS taps a deeply personal story, rooted in memory and migration, yet during performances, it became universal. In our talkbacks, audiences didn’t just ask questions, they shared parts of themselves. It reminded us that art doesn’t just reveal; it returns something to us.

Sharing these unbelievable photos by @sorcha_augustine with tremendous gratitude for our performers and OGD collaborators. You are the artistic engine that drives our work forward.

✨TAMPA TOUR OFF STAGE✨

Tampa filled our week with sunshine, sweat, and so much laughter. Between classes, rehearsals, and two nights of performing REMNANTS, we found joy in the small moments — sharing meals, conversations with the wonderful HCC students, Blind Tiger coffees, Cuban pastries, late-night game nights, feeding gators, mini-golf, and dancing with roosters (Mei!). Grateful for our time down in Tampa together! It was incredible to share REMNANTS and spend a week together under the Florida sun. Thank you to @hccdanceprogram , Christina, and Morgan for being such incredible hosts! And to our amazing OGD Team who travelled from NYC, Baltimore, Dallas, and Albuquerque for this wonderful residency week!🧡

We have officially arrived to VCU and completed Rehearsal #1 with this incredible group of artists! We will be on site with @vcuartsdance for the next 10 days on a Choreographic Residency creating a new performance work with the stellar third year dance majors.

✨ OGD HEADS BACK ON TOUR!✨

Next stop: Tampa! ✈️

This October, Orange Grove Dance will be in residency at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida. From October 6–12, we’ll spend the week teaching, rehearsing, and engaging with students in creative exchange.

The residency culminates in two performances of our work, REMNANTS — a piece that explores memory, migration, and the inexhaustible hope of the human spirit. This work was originally premiered in 2018 as part of the Kennedy Center’s Inaugural Direct Current’s Festival. So it is an absolute joy to reinvestigate the work and bring it back to the stage.

We are thrilled to bring REMNANTS to the Tampa community and grateful for the opportunity to connect with @hccdanceprogram students through both performance and education.

We hopped up to New York for a quick but inspiring trip to dive into ‘Breaking Counterpoint’ inside the incredible NYU audio/media labs. 🎛️🎥

Before our private showing, we had the chance to explore AR sculpture performance tool Scuuulpt by @entroplay with creative direction by @khfdance and share ideas that are shaping the future of this project. It was a whirlwind - trains, coffee, deep conversations, and so much possibility packed into one day.

Grateful for the chance to keep pushing this work forward and for the collaborators and spaces that make exploration like this possible.💫

🍊OGD PARTNERING REP🍊

During OGD INTENSIVE 2025, we shared newly created duets made with the company just days before the Intensive began. We were excited to explore choreography that hadn’t yet seen the stage by the company. Our investigations and discoveries into developing this material were transpiring in real-time. We had the company teach these freshly forming duets while Dylan created original music for them, and Peter designed lights. It was exciting to not know what would fully come to fruition by the end of the week. All of this aligned perfectly with our umbrella intention for the Intensive this year, which was “How can we embrace the unknown within our own artistic and life practices?”

⏰ 2025 vs 2018 ⏰

Seven years (and dozens upon dozens of beautiful collaborations) later, we found ourselves once again at the backstage door of @andyssummerplayhouse. Back in 2018, we shared a transformative summer here creating THE ARRIVAL.

We don’t take for granted how rare it is to work with people who inspire you in places that spark creativity. That’s what made this return with Peter and Dylan so meaningful. This summer, we came back with AHOY!, and it reminded us: making art is never easy but doing it with people you love, who love the process, makes all the difference.

We’re endlessly grateful for our OGD collaborators and love looking back at the years and artistic projects we’ve shared. Can’t wait to see them again real soon!
